Thank you for your question.
The 14x65 Pro-OX system requires approximately 18 - 20 GPM for proper backwash. A 1 HP well pump may be able to provide that flow, but pump horsepower alone does not tell us for sure. The actual available flow depends on the pump model, well depth, pumping water level, pressure settings, pipe size, and the well’s recovery rate.
The best way to confirm is either:
-
Check the make and model of the well pump and compare it to the pump curve, or
-
Perform a flow test at the pressure tank or hose bib to see how many gallons per minute the well system can deliver while the pump is running.
Katalox Light can require less backwash flow than standard Pro-OX in some applications, so it may be an option if your well flow rate is limited (and we can provide it for same price). However, we also offer Pro-OX Lite, which uses Pyrolox Advantage media. We generally prefer Pro-OX Lite over Katalox Light because it has a higher manganese dioxide content and, in our experience, performs better for iron, manganese, and sulfur odor removal.
For a 14-inch tank using Pro-OX Lite / Pyrolox Advantage, the recommended backwash flow is 14 - 18 GPM
.
If your pump can deliver close to 18 GPM, the 14x65 Pro-OX or Pro-OX Lite system may work well. If your flow rate is significantly below that, we would want to review your water test results and well flow rate before recommending the best system size and media.
